COUNCIL BLUFFS — A 46-year-old woman suffered serious injuries Thursday when she was pulled into a wood chipper after a cord became caught in the piece of equipment.
The accident happened shortly after 10 a.m. at 21686 Greenview Road in Pottawattamie County, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Lewis Township Fire and Rescue personnel treated the woman, Angela Davis of Council Bluffs, in an ambulance before a medical helicopter took her to the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
Davis suffered severe lacerations to her face and legs. Sheriff Jeff Danker described the injuries as very serious, but said they appear not to be life threatening.
The woman and others were working to move trees when the accident occurred.
Danker said that as the crew pulled a sawed-off branch down from a tree with a rope and placed the limb in a wood chipper, the rope became tangled in the machine. Davis attempted to remove the rope and got pulled in to the machine.
