Nebraska Wind Symphony will give two free outdoor patriotic concerts this summer. The first will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at Stinson Park in Aksarben Village, and the other at 6 p.m. July 4 at the Chalco Hills Recreation Area, 154th Street and Giles Road in Sarpy County.
Audience members should bring chairs or blankets for seating.
Each concert starts with an hour's performance by the Swingtones, a big-band group made up of concert band members. Then the 80-piece community band will play a variety of tunes, including “Old Comrades” march, “America the Beautiful,” a medley of Gerschwin tunes and a salute to the five branches of the armed forces.
At the July 4 concert, U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Larry MacTaggart, will be guest conductor. He is a former director of the band and a member of its Hall of Fame, and is chief enlisted manager of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific, based in Hawaii.
